Pre Arranged Funeral Planning

We all prepare for most of the events of our lifetime.
Yet few of us prepare for the event that is inevitable, our own funeral.

Planning for a funeral in advance of a death is called a preplanned or prearranged funeral.

Preplanning offers several advantages

Stress reduction for your survivors:
In the 24 hours surrounding a death your survivors must make over 50 decisions. Preplanning alleviates burdens to your family and minimizes the chance of last-minute complications.

Evaluation of your wishes:
Your personal peace of mind knowing your wishes will be followed. Preplanning allows you and family members to discuss options together, rather than making decisions alone. Most survivors will fulfill your desires. However, State of Michigan law does not guarantee that your preplanned choices will be carried out. The next-of-kin is empowered to alter your choices after death.

Preplanning does not require prepayment:
As with other goods and services, prices are subject to change. The cost of funeral goods and services has increased less than the cost of living. We guarantee our costs of funeral goods and services for 90 days after our initial consultation with a family.

Prepayment will fund the cost of tomorrow's funeral services at today's prices:
The financial burden of funeral expenses can be devastating to the members of your family. This burden can be reduced if you have set up a pre-financed funeral. In the State of Michigan pre-funded funerals must be set up in either a Trust funded funeral plan or an Insurance funded funeral plan. Each plan has distinct advantages or disadvantages depending upon your financial situation.

Trust funded funeral plans
This type of plan uses the interest collected from your account to offset any increase in cost because of inflation. Your family will NEVER be required to pay any additional funds for the goods and services that you have purchased. Interest stays with the trust fund and is not collected. You are responsible for income taxes on the interest. There would be a form of tax-exempt funding available. This account can be exempt from Medicaid. At the time of death all funds in the account are given to Voran Funeral Home upon proof of the fulfillment of the contract.

Insurance funded funeral plans
This type of plan enables the purchaser to obtain a limited life insurance policy in the amount of the cost of goods and services selected. Voran Funeral Home accepts the risk that there might not be sufficient funds to cover costs when the death occurs. In the event of a surplus amount of funds being available after the death occurs the insurance company will refund any surplus funds to your estate. This plan can also be exempt from Medicaid. Your family will NEVER be required to pay any additional funds for goods and services that you have purchased.

There is no substitute for being able to sit down together and make these decisions, but we hope that this information might help to satisfy some of your questions and concerns. If we can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact us.
